Hey, I’m Shivam Kumar! 👋
I’m a Digital Product Designer who combines creativity, empathy, and research to shape meaningful digital experiences. Currently, I’m in my final year of B.Tech. in Industrial Design at NIT Rourkela, where my passion for Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) has become a driving force in my career. My mission? To design products that people can genuinely connect with.
From Aspiring Defense Officer to Product Designer 🎖️
My journey began with a strong ambition to serve in the Indian Defense Forces. Attending Sainik School from a young age, I learned values like discipline, time management, and dedication to others. I even secured an All India Rank of 112 in the UPSC NDA 147 exam and successfully cleared the Service Selection Board (SSB) interviews. Although my path led me to design instead, these values remain at the core of who I am. Today, they guide my approach to product design and HCI, as I focus on creating trustworthy, people-centered experiences with the same commitment I once dedicated to serving my country.
Inspired by HCI and a Lifelong Learner 📚
My interest in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) has grown naturally over time. I immerse myself in research articles, interviews, and courses to stay updated on HCI advancements and trends, fueling my passion for designing products that simplify and enhance users’ lives. HCI has taught me that design is not just about aesthetics—it’s about creating intuitive, seamless interactions that feel like second nature. This dedication to learning continuously inspires me to bridge the gap between technology and people meaningfully.
Why I Love Product Design 💡
Every project offers a chance to blend empathy and technology. Working with teams at Nestlé, Taksh Education, PolyM, and IIT Guwahati has taught me how to balance practical constraints with real user needs, resulting in solutions that genuinely make a difference. My experience at Polytechnique Montréal through the Mitacs Research Internship introduced me to Generative AI for creating design inspiration tool, showing me how advanced technologies can support creativity and enhance the user experience. This journey continues to reinforce my passion for creating user-centric designs that empower and connect people.

To me, design is about crafting experiences that resonate with users on a human level. I aim to make every interaction intuitive, enjoyable, and meaningful. My foundation in both engineering and design allows me to bridge technical feasibility with a strong user-centered focus, a balance I find essential in creating impactful digital experiences.
Life Beyond Design 🏎️⚽
Outside of work, I’m an avid F1 fan and a huge Lewis Hamilton supporter—race days are sacred! I also enjoy watching other sports, especially football, and I love the thrill of a close game. When I’m not watching sports, you might find me on the hockey field, diving into debates on geopolitics, or planning my next travel adventure. Making new friends and exploring new places gives me a broader perspective on life and design.

I am a Final year B.Tech. in Industrial Design student at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.
